Meet our Trainers

Jennifer Brunette, Parenting Time Center Coordinator, has worked at the Domestic Abuse Intervention Programs since 2015. Jennifer began at DAIP as a volunteer and is now the Coordinator of the Parenting Time Center. She also does criminal justice reform work by facilitating a Men’s Non-Violence class, being a member of the DVRT team, participating in Veterans Court and is a trainer for DAIP on various topics. Jennifer’s experience working in the Parenting Time Center, facilitating both Men’s & Women’s Groups, along with updating government system’s policies and protocols has given her a range of experience and understanding within the movement to end violence against women and children.

Maren Woods, Executive Director, began working in the movement to end violence against women with Domestic Abuse Intervention Programs in Duluth, Minnesota in 2000 as the coordinator of an extensive community-based analysis of the U.S. criminal legal system’s response to violence against Indigenous women. At that time, she volunteered as an on-call advocate and began working at Praxis, a national training and technical assistance organization. For over 25 years, Maren directed programs that provided extensive consultation and training to communities across the country seeking to improve their advocacy, community, and system responses to gender-based violence. In November 2025, she returned to DAIP as Executive Director and brings her extensive expertise to our local and international programs. She has co-developed numerous resources, including: Engage to Protect: Foundations for Supervised Visitation and Exchange; Supporting the Safety of Battered Mothers and Their Children Together: A Guide to Assessing Child Protection Practice in Domestic Violence-Related Cases; and Make the Call – A Toolkit for Advocacy Programs to Implement Advocacy-Initiated Response to Domestic Violence Crimes.

Rhonda Martinson, Independent Consultant/Trainer, began work at DAIP in 1996 as a staff attorney providing national domestic violence training on evidence-based prosecution and creating/improving a coordinated community response. In 2010, she joined AEquitas, a prosecution resource center, to manage a multi-year project investigating criminal justice responses to victim and witness intimidation in domestic violence cases. Duluth was a pilot site for this project. Using a process created by DAIP’s late former director Ellen Pence – the Safety and Accountability Audit – Rhonda worked with local coordinators to facilitate focus groups, conduct interviews, observe court, and review files. Since then, as an independent consultant and trainer, Rhonda has consulted on nearly 100 projects to audit community responses to domestic violence. She has also been a trainer many times on creating/improving coordinated community responses, as well as on identifying and responding to the occurrence of victim and witness intimidation in domestic violence cases.

Scott Miller, Senior Policy Advocate, has worked for the Domestic Abuse Intervention Programs since 2000. Scott coordinates Duluth’s Coordinated Community Response to domestic violence which was a demonstration project funded by OVW called the Blueprint for Safety. Serving as both system advocate and coordinator of the CCR, he is instrumental in the evolving work being done in Duluth. Scott trains nationally and internationally and develops resources and curricula on the Duluth Model of domestic violence intervention. Scott co-authored the newest DAIP men’s nonviolence curriculum Creating a Process of Change for Men Who Batter. Scott works independently as an expert witness, trainer for the Minnesota Child Welfare Academy, and has worked in the women’s movement since 1985.
