Description
This training was originally scheduled for June 13th. Anyone who registered for that training has been moved to this training.
This training is geared toward anyone interested in gaining a foundational understanding of intimate partner violence.
The complexity involved in domestic violence between intimate partners can be perplexing to those looking in from the outside.
Whether it’s first responders in the medical, law enforcement and child protection settings, in primary or secondary schools, businesses, mental health agencies, housing facilities or religious institutions, people called to help often don’t know how to best respond given the behavior of both the victim and the perpetrator.
This training is an opportunity to get an introductory understanding of:
- who causes this kind of violence,
- why it happens,
- how it impacts survivors and their children,
- the basics around risk factors,
- the counterintuitive behavior of victims.
If you are looking to increase your effectiveness in responding to domestic violence situations, this training will give you the necessary tools to understand the problem and develop strategies that will hopefully increase safety for those experiencing domestic violence.
Participants that could benefit from the training include (but are not limited to):
- Medical professionals
- Teachers and school staff
- Corrections workers
- Social workers
- Child protection workers
- Mental health providers
- Chemical dependency counselors
- Supervised visitation providers
- First Responders / Emergency Medical Technicians

- More
