Description
Domestic Violence 101
A virtual training to strengthen professional understanding of coercive control, power, and violence in intimate partner relationships
June 11, 2026
8:30 am – 12:30 pm Central time
Intimate partner domestic violence is complex and often misunderstood by those called upon to respond. Professionals across fields—including healthcare, law enforcement, child protection, education, workplaces, mental health services, housing, and faith communities—interact with survivors of domestic violence and people who cause harm every day, yet may feel uncertain about how to effectively intervene.
This training provides an introductory framework for responding more effectively. As a result of this training, participants will be better able to:
- Distinguish ongoing, coercive controlling violence in intimate partner relationships
- Account for how domestic violence impacts survivors and their children
- Spot key risk factors associated with increased danger
- Interpret survivor and offender behavior that are often misunderstood
Designed to strengthen professional response, this training offers practical tools and strategies to improve understanding, enhance effectiveness, and increase support and safety for individuals and families experiencing domestic violence.
Who will benefit from this training?
This training is designed for professionals across sectors who may encounter domestic violence in their work. No prior experience is required.
